We were out on a RV trip for eight days and while we were gone every other day XM Radio called the house say our XM Radio is about to expire. I also got in the mail a bill from them for $337.86 . I don't know for which vehicle it is for as we got two on XM. I tried to call and find out this morning , but was on hold forever and hung up. I don't remember it being that much money. Have they gone up ?

They pulled that crap on me when it was time to renew. They just took it on themselves to bill my CC. I refused payment. They called and wanted of know why. I told them there was no way I was paying that kind of money for radio that I rarely use. I ended up getting the same programming for 50% of the price they billed me, which was pretty close to the original price I paid when I first signed on. No way would I pay $337.86 for radio, I prefer to listen to the sweet music of he engine.

That's about what I paid for "lifetime" XM service on each of my 2 cars and my RV (around $350 each). The one-time fee provides service for as long as you own it (and the radio remains working). If you sell the vehicle or the radio goes bad you are out of luck. But the lifetime fee has about a 3 year payback and after that you are "in the money" and not subject to rate increases. So I haven't had an XM bill for several years and will keep my vehicles for many more years. Actually, I don't know how they police the service if you sell the vehicle. XM can't possibly know who is driving my cars or who has the title. But, if the radio needed to be reactivated (which happens occasionally), they would be able to verify the account owner, I suppose.

Since, I just posted XM called again. This time it was a guy on the other end not a recording. It was for my truck and it seems it the same price for the service $271 and the other money is other frres and taxes. the bill still comes to $337.86. I told him I would think about it. Right now I am thinking NO !!!

Hi diandtom,
Consider asking them what the cost of the lifetime one time payment is. My story is the same as Dave and Jaime. I have the lifetime subscription on both my radios. Have had it for several years.

I forgot to say the $337 was for two years. I got 66,000 on this truck and not sure how long I am going to keep it. I will probably get a call back as they been very aggressive.

I won't pay that much to listen to their music...and yes, they do advertise on the stations. I'll listen to off-air, CD's or the HF radio.

Sirius/XM have auto renewal policies. So, unless you cancel you're stuck.. And yes, they are reluctant to answer the number you have to call to cancel and you can't cancel on-line. I wrote them a cancellation letter. For me to get a refund for unused months I had to get the DC Attorney General's office involved. It wasn't until the DC AG contacted Sirius/XM that I got my money back. FWIW, they offer 1/2 price bring you back offers, so cancel at the end of your policy if they won't give you the 1/2 price offer. They'll call you in a few days and make the offer. BTW, those extra fees that they began charging a year or two ago are artist royalty fees. Clearly, they conduct business like the monopoly they now are. They told the FCC they would not...but they clearly have.

My account would have been renewed if my credit card number had stayed the same. I will let you know how it goes in a few days.

Every time ours comes up for renewal, at $13 per month, we call to cancel. Every time we've ended up getting a 'promotional' price that comes out to 4 or $5 per month. The last time I had someone on the phone that was very nice and mentioned that we could get off the 'automatic' billing / pay, and they'd send an invoice when the next payment was due - at which time we'll call again to cancel. I won't pay $13 per month for as little as we use it, but at 4 or 5...

Jay, If I could get a deal for $4 or $5 a month I would take it. Even pay for a couple of years. I am planning on keeping this truck at least two more years.

I do the 5mo for $5 as well, I have 2 radios and have done this for 2 years. You have to call and try to cancel a radio and they will give it to you.
