I am convinced no GPS is infallible. They all will route you somewhere you should not be.
SO
As a solo person (no co pilot) I plan my trip the night before. Once the trip has be plotted on the GPS I review it in detail. I check this against a truckers atlas for height/weight restrictions. I then check for fuel stations. Review those in google maps street view for access and maneuverability. Once all is good I have a white board I write the turn by turn directions. I use the white board and ignore the GPS turns should it go off route.
Yes it takes time. Hasn't failed me yet even though the GPS "decided" to reroute me another way. I ignore it and it will then recalculate and realize I am on the "correct" route.
I use a RM Xcite (basically a 7730) and my iPad with Google maps and Waze running

You have to compare specific products rather than comparing the generic categories of truck vs RV GPS. That's because no two devices have the same feature set.

In general, a truck GPS will allow you to enter truck measurements and weights. The map database will have restrictions on it and theoretically the routing algorithm will incorporate those restrictions based on the measurements and weight.

A truck GPS will typically also use the DOT hazmat classification system for restrictions.

A RV GPS will typically have the same dimension and weights but it's very hit and miss whether it handles propane restrictions.

There will likely also be a difference in the POIs available between truck and RV GPS.

Yet another RV GPS question

My 770 announced propane restrictions in NJ and NY, then drove me crazy as wouldn’t stop. Had to go to settings and change to no propane tank to get it to stop. Needs to be addressed in a future sw upgrade (anyone at Garmin listening?).

RV GPS Products

Looks like Rand McNally has some new RV GPS products. Not many thorough reviews out yet.

Rand Mcnally Overdryve 7 RV

I got the Overdryve 7 two months ago and have used it for about 1700 miles and so far I love it. I am sure ALL GPS's can send you down a bad road but I think a lot of that is not getting the settings correct. I bought a Garmin 770 and tried it but it was so different from my last RM 7" GPS I had, it was way different to use. The Garmin Base Camp is the worst program to make a route with campgrounds info I have ever seen, way to complicated. I sent it back and ordered the "Overdryve 7 RV". The RM program to make a route is very easy to use and intuitive. As all new GPS's it does much more as answer phone call. and voice activated commands. It all depends on what GPS you are used to using, I had RM before.
