You can do better than AT&T
AT&T owns Direct TV. They are one of the worst money grubbers on the planet. You really must read this article about their plans for you Direct folks. https://qz.com/1480089/

With 5g wireless data around the corner we will be able to stream just as fast as our hard lines that we have at home. The new box they talk about is probably a 5g antenna and software similar to a cable box. I think I would rather have that and not mess with the alignment and tree/obstruction issues of satellite. The downside is minimal signal/coverage in rural areas and how they plan on overcoming that...lots more towers?

Four points. 1) Nothing new 2) That is this CEO's plan. He could be gone tomorrow and the next CEO might launch 50 satellites. 3) Satellites of this purpose operate for many years. 4) You sound like you short sold AT&T, you own stock in a competitor or you are the competitor.

FYI I have both T and VZ, retired AT&T and DirectTV customer service sucks. With one exception.

Hi Ed & Gloria! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!
Noticed you are kinda new on IRV2 and wanted to say hello!
We are in the process of switching from Direct TV to Dish.
Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

They don't plan to put 5G in rural areas. It will be predominately disseminated in large urban areas with large customer bases where the can add lot's of cell locations. 5g cell transmitter\antenna arrays are much smaller and will have much shorter range than their 4G counterparts. Add to that the frequencies used for 5G do not penetrate walls, landscaping and other obstructions very well. 5G technology is not well suited to rural geography and as a result 4G will be the norm in rural areas for a very long time. For the RV'r 5G is not going to have much impact unless you are camping in a major city. Hopefully Dish will continue to provide service because besides that most of the time your only option will OTA or streaming 4G if it's available.

Not quite true. That's true of the initial millimeter band 5g, but the carriers will soon start rolling out 5g using their old 3g spectrum (frequencies). Qualcomm just released the modem that will be in phones produced late this year and next that will support 5g on millimeter band and low/mid brand frequencies.
