Hello all, new to the forum, and in need some electrical advice.
I recently acquired a pair of expensive LED fog lights, rated 24VDC/1.6A/45W, operating voltage between 21V-34V, and am trying to apply them to a 12VDC system.
Its been a few years since I've dealt with Ohms law or anything else requiring electrical calculations, and I noticed people on this forum appear to know their stuff.
I've been researching 12V/24V step-up (boost) converters, and is becoming overwhelming as there are many different sizes and types with vague information; -Isolated, non-isolated, sealed, non-sealed, noise reducing, switching, etc. I want something that will be reliable and stable at constant voltage. Im also unclear whether these products may bog down my charging system (I can check my alternator specs later if this is a concern).
Am I correct that I need a converter that will produce (at least) appx 24VDC/3A/90W?
Examples of two different types I've been viewing can be found on left side of the page here:
http://www.current-logic.com/
I apologize as I am not an RV owner (yet) and light vehicle/vehicle lighting forums have not yet allowed me access to individuals with enough electrical knowledge or experience.
Any advice would be appreciated.

One of the cheaper ones shown should work. However I would get a higher than 90 watt one with 4 or more amps output.
It's nice to have a little more capability than you need.

Well, 12-24 volt up-verters are not all that inexpensive but they ARE easy to find, Very easy in fact,,, And some of them can put out up to 3 amps.. Though you do need to be careful there (you may need two, one for each lamp)
Shop computer stores like Micro-Center... Many laptps take 24 volts at 1-3 amps.. Just find one that can handle the 150% of the current and you are good to go.
Many of these are in the 100 watt range, that's roughly 4 amps, and should be big enough. They may also be in the hundred BUCKS range I will warn you.

From the site you posted the one shown HERE is a 12V step up to 24V, 5A, 120W, and sells for $36.
It should do what you want.

Excellent. Prices I've been seeing are between $50-$400, which is quite a spread. Trying to determine the differences from a cheaper one to a more expensive one has been my confusion, as I wasnt sure if I needed all the bells & whistles for this application. For all I know the larger, vented, expensive ones may be designed for medical equipment, lasers, or aerospace. If these were my only option, I would do it, and mount it under my seat or somewhere away from the weather with enough air circulation, but if I only require a cheaper, sealed one as an underhood application, this would be an obvious benefit....hence, my asking.
The only manufacturer Im familiar with is Samlex, which also happens to be one of the more expensive $200-$400 range, and like I mentioned, I wasnt sure if these were nessessary.
The ones I was eyeing up are around $50-$100, and range between 5A-10A and 100W-120W. I've used search engines, ebay, and the only electronics company Im familiar with and checked was Cobra. I never thought about checking Micro-Center or Fry's.
Thanks for the thoughts & suggestions...all pointing me in the right direction ! I knew I came to the right place !! Im open to any other thoughts or opinions if they're out there.
