I have a 1993 twenty-one foot Damon (Hornet) camper and after 18 years the refrigerator quit working. I decided to recore it and in doing so I think I killed the DC side of my converter?

While I was removing my NuCold refrigerator, I accidentally shorted the two (negative and positive) connectors together for just an instant and of course they sparked.

After recoring and replacing the refrigerator, I find that I have no DC power to these two leads and the refrigerator will not work at all on AC or DC even though AC is present. In addition, I lost two ceiling lights and the light over the sofa when on or DC; however, all the other lights (kitchen table and bathroom) work normally on ACw and DC. The first thing I checked were the fuses and they all checked ok—I guess they only work on shorts to the AC side of the converter?

Questions: Did I blow a DC fuse? If I did, where is it? Must I replace the entire converter or can it be repaired?

Find the 12 volt distribution panel for the interior electrical components. Check all the fuses and replace any that are blown. Check battery voltage on both sides of fuse terminals and verify you have at least 12 vdc coming into and out of the distribution panel. Once you have a complete circuit check the charging voltage at the battery bank when the coach has 120 vac applied to it. Let us know what you find.

Thanks RV Wizzard.

When things go wrong....my volt meter crashed today--Sunday!
OK
On the DC circuit board I have 6 fuses -- 2 thru 6 and 9.
I removed all the fuses and using one fuse I checked each circuit.
Number 2 and 3 were dead
Number 4 lit the light over the
Number 5 lit the 2 ceeling lights
Number 6 lit bath and over cab ceeling lights
Number 9 ran the Hood Fan and Water Pump and indicator (grey, black, battery, etc.)

As u can see, I am not good at this!!

1993 Converter Update
RV Wizard ….Thanks for helping me!
Today, Sunday, my voltmeter died….when thngs go wrong!!
I pulled out all six 15 amp fuses.
Using one fuse I checked each circuit in turn with following results:
On the DC fuse board, I have 6 fuses – 2 thru 6 and 9.
Circuit 2 dead.
Circuit 3 dead.
Circuit 4 lit the ceiling light above the kitchen table.re
Circuit 5 lit the 2 ceiling coach lights.
Circuit 6 lit the bath ceiling light and the 2 cab-over-bed ceiling lights
Circuit 9 ran the Hood indicators, Hood fan, Water Pump.
I repeated the above test with the AC ON and got the same result.
I then got spunky!
I removed the dead Circuit 2 wire and touched Circuit 4 with the fuse in…no effect.
I removed the dead Circuit 3 wire and touched Circuit 4 with the fuse in…no effect.

Thinking ahead…..If I need a new 45 amp converter, I can buy a
WFCO Model WF 8945 for about $125.00
Replacement Model 7345RU is over $225.00
Please comment if u can.

You will need to get a voltage reading for the #2 & 3 fuse holder. If in fact you have voltage then changing the converter will not change any outcome. If you do have power then you could have a bad ground on the circuit it controls. A 12 vdc test light can help you test these circuits in lieu of a volt meter. If you are not sure how to test; Google: how to test 12 vdc circuits with test light.

Yesterday I bought a new voltmeter.
I found the problem and corrected it!!
A fuse was blown….replaced and all is right with the world.
I LEARNED that visual inspection of these fuses cannot be accomplished with them IN the holder—they must be removed to see the ‘little” wire.

Thanks for holding my hand … it meant a lot.
