When I have to connect my 50 amp coach to a 30amp shore power, I use the 30 to 50amp dogbone. The problem is getting them connected and later having to pull them apart. I am a big man and its all I can do to get them apart. Is there some type of lubricant that I can use that will not interfere with the flow of electrons.

You might want to try a little dielectric grease. It should be available at an auto parts store.

i've used a large flat screwdriver between the dog bone and the 50 amp end with no damage for the past 5 yrs. the dielectric grease helps as paulin said and also keeps the connectors from caroding!

My Camco 30A dogbone comes apart easily enough, but my 50A extension cord is a bear. Anything plugged into the female socket is nigh unto impossible to remove, even using a screwdriver or small pry bar. I use a dielectric grease too, but it is only a minor improvement. Fortunately I don't have to use the extension a lot.

Richard provided a good suggestion. I've used the plugs with handles for several years. The handles do come in handy.

Tight fitting connections are great. The alternative is loose fitting connections, which also include higher resistance(a bad thing). Using a conductive lubricant is the best option. Do not use a dielectric grease! Any grease containing graphite works great, graphite is an excellent conductor. The down-side is, graphite also stains porous materials.

There is a product called Plug Dogs which I use to separate my 30/50 amp dogbone from my 50 amp power cord. These essentially provide pull handles to help separate the plugs. I use them only on the 50 amp end since the 30 amp end comes apart easily. If you scroll down the page, there are a number of photos and videos showing how they work.

My only concern about Plug Dogs is their use in rainy or damp conditions.
I do not see that they are UL Approved.
From the Plug Dogs web site.
