Not good with electricity here, but want to know how to connect my 30 amp RV to a 50 amp circuit in a garrage. The 50 amp circuit was used for a welding rig, and the plug has 2 paralell legs of unequal length and a round leg centered underneath. Is this the same as a range or drier plug, and how can I adapt it to plug into my 50 amp male to 30 amp female dogbone? Thanks

Jeff

If it looks like this, then it cannot be used;

It is 240 volts only, and not the same as a range, dryer or RV receptacle which is 120/240 volts.

The easiest thing to do is have the circuit rewired for 120 volts, 30 amps. That would require rewiring the circuit at the breaker panel from 240 volts to 120 volts, a new 30 amp breaker, and a new 30 amp RV receptacle.

Jeff, the best way would be to have an electrician or someone very knowledgable of electrical wiring change the circuit for your RV. The circuit will be feed by a double pole breaker and will need to be changed to a single pole 30 amp breaker. One of the wires on the old breaker will now be used as a neutral. Change out the receptacle to a 30 amp 120 volt and you will be good to go. If you still need the 230 volt circuit for a welder then a new circuit for the RV should be installed. Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks you guys. The plug is exactly what you drew Rt 66. I was wishing there would be a magic converter plug that would make things easy. But I guess not. I still don't understand how flipping a switch makes a light come on, so I will be sure to have an electrician make the conversion, as you suggest RV Wizard while holding a print out of the info from the web site you sent JC2. I really appreciate your quick and helpful responses!
