geno39 as long as I spray carb cleaner in it it will run. I think it's a carb problem.

If it only runs when you spray carb cleaner in means it is not getting fuel. Yes that could be the carb but also could be the fuel pump or a blocked filter. You may want to disconnect the fuel line to the carb and put it in a plastic bottle and hit the starter and see if you are getting fuel. If you get fuel then it could be the needle valve for the float stuck or a blocked jet. If no fuel in the bottle then it is the pump or filter

Pete, if your generator will start without the use of starting fluid and then quits once you let go of the start switch, then it will be one of the things I mentioned before. If the control board does not sense voltage from the generator or if the oil pressure switch is defective or the oil level is low, the control board will not allow the fuel pump to energize thus shutting the system down. Check out the troubleshooting guide below.

I agree with Mike. Float bowl (float) gummed up. Probably main jet gummed up. I would remove carb and clean it before I did anything else.
good luck

Is this a gas genset? If so, run some Sea Foam through it to clean it out.

rex I do have some Sea Foam and have had good results with it in the pass, I had not thought of that tho. My MH started to run real bad and skipping and it got where it would pull up a big hill. Luckily I was close to home and a friends house, he met me with some Sea Foam in hand. I had about 60 gal of gas and we put 3 cans (I think) in the tank. I ran about a half mile and no more problems, I carry Sea Foam with me at all times now. So I will try this, Thanks.

I have a gen. That does this when oil is low do to low oil level sensor won't let it stay running. The level is good when you check it but not enough when it's running
