50amp to dual 30 amp adapter?

Has anyone seen such a thing? I know it's technically possible and have seen at least one setup that could be utilized for it (but with additional male-female adapters, patch cable...starts to feel very Rube Goldberg), but haven't found a simple one.

My use case is that I am sometimes at tracks where there is 50amp service but none of us can use it since we all have 30amp. Currently, I have a plain 50-to-30 adapter so it doesn't go totally unused, but obviously, it heavily underutilizes the circuit -- and my coach can actually use the second 30amp to run the rear a/c (which can otherwise only run if I fire up the generator).

I've searched all the places online I can think of, but since I'm not the best searcher in the world I thought I'd see if someone knew more than I (not hard to find that someone)

Steve

Here's the Marinco Adapter.

If your RV needs 2 30A power sources, why not change the RV feeder to a single 50A? That way you only need a 50A (RV) to 30A (Source) adapter in the times you're stuck with only a 30A source. You only have one power cord, instead of the 2 you have today.

Oh that's perfect!

I just haven't wanted to muck with the service in the motorhome. The rear air isn't wired into the main service; it feeds off the 20amp circuit on the generator. There seemed fewer things to muck with doing it this way, and the second cord really isn't so bad.

If I understand you correctly you are looking for an adapter with ONE fifty amp MALE plug and two 30 amp FEMALE outlets.

I have never encountered one but I can tell you how to make one

Get one 50 amp plug and 2 30 amp female pigtails

Wire both GREEN wires to the green screw on the plug

Same for both WHITE wires to the Silverish screw opposite the green screw

That leaves two copper screws one on each side. Each gets ONE black wire.

I have one. Actually I have two.....one currently has twist lock ends on all three connectors. The male and female plugs could easily be changed to RV type plugs.....they're available at Home Depot. PM me with any questions.

Home Depot? Really? What all would you have to do, to make it work? I'm in need of one of these. We recently added a second AC to our RV, and I also don't want to rewire EVERYTHING if I don't need to. We currently have a 20amp cable that runs the length of the rig, then over to the pole. So far we've been at parks that allow us to plug in both, but I'm fearing the day that they only have a single outlet on the pole and I can't run everything I want.

If I run my 20amp wire to the 30amp input location on the trailer, could I switch that over to a 50 amp input and have it run to the existing wiring, and the new 20amp?

Hello Justin and welcome to iRV2.com. We are gad to have you join us here and we look forward to reading of your adventures and experiences. I am sure (as I mentioned on BOTL) you will enjoy it here.
There is quite a bit involved to upgrade your service to 50 amp but it can be done. There are several ways to accomplish this but it must be done right to make it safe. You will need to upgrade to a 50 amp transfer switch if you have an auto transfer switch now. You will need to verify or upgrade to a distribution panel that can handle the 50 amp service and loads that you will then be able to run. Check the label in your ac distribution panel and let us know what you find. There are several of us here that can guide you through this process if you want to spend the money and want to do it.

RV Wizard, although you are certainly correct if the goal is upgrade your coach to 50A service, I don't believe that's what is being asked. If I understand the request, Steve wants to be able to connect to 50A service to support his 2 30A inputs. If he wants to accomplish this at his coach using a single 50A cord, he can just install a 30A/220VAC panel that would feed his existing 2 30A inputs. From this panel he would need a cord that supports 50A, eventhough his coach panel is circuit protected for 30A. The 50A capable cord is required for short circuit protection between the camp site service panel and the 30A/220V coach panel. This would also preclude any changes to the coach's existing transfer switch.

Ultilmately it looks like Steve is going with a splitter.

Thanks Gil, I think Mike was answering my version of the question here. I did post an intro thread when I joined here Mike, just couldn't find your screenname here! Different than on BOTL.

I understand what you are saying, Mike, and will probably just hold off at this point. I think that is a lot more work than I want to put into this right now. I will probably go with the splitter. What I had in mind was basically running the 50amp cable to the trailer itself, and having the splitter built into the rig. Not a full on conversion, love that idea-but too much $$ for what it's worth.
