Hello JRRogers and welcome to iRV2.com. We are glad to have you join us here and we look forward to reading of your adventures and experiences. I am sure you will enjoy the website and forums. Good luck and keep us posted.
Make certain the lp gas tank has gas & is turned on. you may also have to make certain the lp gas leak detector inside the coach is on (it is located near floor). Make certain the water heater tank is full of water. Make certain you have good batter voltage and turn the water heater on at the switch. The light should go out and stay out. If it comes back on; turn the water heater off and back on again as many times as need be to purge the gas lines of any air.
What skill level do you have with electrical troubleshooting and do you have a multi-meter? If you are getting sparking, then you want to verify the lp gas valve on the water heater is getting 12 vdc at the same time. Let us know what you find in as much detail as possible. Also create a signature thru the "CP" button under panoramic picture at top of page; including year, make and model of your coach.
