93 Safari 40' Charging question

I know I have a charger working since the house battery are being maintained. I assumed my charger was also charging my engine battery's until I left my key in the on position and they had ran down. shouldn't I be charging all my battery's? So now I want to add a battery maintainer for engine side. I have a 1 amp charger. Would 1 amp continuously plugged in maintain 2 batteries with no draw? I don't want to cook them all winter. I've been learning a lot lately on my winter project. This sight has guided me along the way. Hoping to have this rig remodeled and going by spring. It is overwhelming work but I seem to enjoy it a little at a time.
