A/C compressor - dash air help
Has anybody replaced the dash a/c compressor on their coach? Mine failed recently and needs replacement. Original system was supplied by Evans (2003 Spartan chassis). I don't have the Evans part number unfortunately. The manufacturer of the original compressor is no longer in business (Acme with a sticker reading 4526311). Did the internet/Google search with no results.
Suggestions for sourcing a new compressor appreciated.
I hope to replace the compressor myself then have it charged at a local a/c shop. I do know the system uses R134a .

Many compressors have universal mounts. Remove the old compressor and take it to an A/C shop and match it up with a new unit.

If compressor blew out on a not real old unit you want a better one anyway.
Compressor is a simple bolt on so many options as long as mount and capacity are correct.
System needs to be cleaned out as well.
Dryer and flushing lines minimum required.

Pic of the compressor will help. Probably is a Sanden/Sankyo compressor, very common in "aftermarket" and non "big three" systems.

Acme product, try: "ACMEAIRPARTS.com".......but agree, there are any number of generic compressors that will work.....

I have used https://www.comfortairgr.com/ they are helpful on the phone.
Like tq60 said you need way more than a refrigerant refill after compressor failure unless it is just the clutch which would be a external failure and would not contaminate the system (to be so lucky).

Take the compressor off & take it to an A/C shop/supply house. They can match it up.

Thanks for the relpies. Not sure of the failure mode - When I pulled into a rest area the rear of the coach ahd blue smoke comming out. Could not turn the compressor drive pulley after cutting off the old belt which was badly damaged.
I'll check the Acme air part site and see what they have. Agree witht he new dryer and cleaning out the lines. I cant do that myself but a shop should not have any problems.
Again - thanks for the input

So your compressor seized up. which means the vanes ur pistons inside came apart in some fashion and you must thoroughly clean out the insides and may have to replace or clean the expansion valve. Otherwise pieces floating around in the system will plug things up or even eat up a new compressor. You can probably do it all yourself if you know what you are doing, but if you overlook some step it you may be doing it all again soon. I would probably pay the high prices for a professional shop to do it, but you want to be sure it is a good shop-not an average garage type.
