A/C not cooling

I have a 04 Mandalay and the a/c not working. Had system recharged and shop said it appears that the compressor has a slow leak. Shop is unable to repair it and said to take to a truck shop to get repaired. That way shop could recover the fluid. Does anyone have a idea what the cost would be for replacing the compressor?

Not sure about a compressor but a replacement Coleman-Mack or Dometic AC will run between $400-600 plus installation. I'm also not sure if these units are even serviceable. So if the cost of a compressor is more than $300-400 I would just get a new unit.

The compressor is not that expensive, it will be the labor to vacuum and recharge the system that will hurt. My guess; $1,500.
We had our compressor replaced in Jan, extended warranty paid for the parts and a portion of the labor, I think the remainder that we paid was about $900.

Thank you, I was thinking about$1500 to $2000 my self. Because of the length of the plumbing from rear engine to front, about 40 ft. Just got the Motorhome and haven't made a outing yet. We need to repair a/c so are extended warranty will cover the unit If there's a problem in the future. Looking forward to getting on the road.

My next question would be, a truck shop or motorhome shop for best price?

I would suggest you cut your losses and get a new A/C unit!

New one from Texas to Michigan was less than $500. Used the backhoe to sit it on the roof 4 bolts and a plug in later all was well. Got 100$ for the old one from guy who was going to fix it and resell.
