I have a Dometic 15k ducted unit that I need to replace. I am considering the Carrier 15k ducted unit. Any suggestions? What is your opinion of the Carrier unit? Thanks TxSwede

Carrier has been around in the air conditioning business longer than anyone but not in the RV industry as long as the others. Still we have not seen any real issues with the units. THey usually have a remote control as well. Why are you having to replace the Dometic unit? Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks for the response. The Dometic is 6 years old and started not cooling well last year. This year when we took a trip in May it did not cool at all. I took of the top cover and observed that while the compressor was running and getting hot, I had no sweating on the refridgerant lines going to the coils. I continued to check the temp of the lines for 20 min and they never got cool much less cold. I assume that we are low on refridgerant and thus have a leak. I figured it was really not worth adding freon, then trying to find the leak and then hope it was repairable on a 6 year old unit. Your thoughts on this? Looks like the install should be very straight forward. Are there any gotchas? Also, any suggestions on getting old unit off the top and new unit up there. I'm afraid my front-in loader on the tractor won't reach. I'm open to suggestions. Thanks.

I agree that to repair a leaking refrigerant system may not be cost effective. Without a fork lift or other equipment it is going to be difficult to get the new unit up there. Since the old unit is probably out of refrigerant just push it away from the coach!
Do you have a block and tackle and a high big limb of a tree that you can hoist it up and then drive the coach under it?

I do have an electric winch and I built a 20 x 40 steel car port that i park it under. I'll have to see if I can beef up the purlins that span the 20 ft so I won't bend it trying to lift the 100# unit. Are there any install do's or don't that i should be aware of? Thanks

Don't overtighten the bolts that hold the unit down. The foam gasket on bottom of air cond should only be compressed about 1/3 to 1/2. Good luck.
