AC/Heatpump
Curious about AC/heat pump systems.
I had an upgrade done and install the 15 K Dometic heat pump AC. I find that sometimes when running the heat pump it will cut the fan out and going to some kind of remission when heating. Is this some type of deicing activity?
After period of about five minutes it re-starts. Today it cycled that wait twice with in a half hour. My settings were inside and 69 degrees and the outside temperature
was 55.
Any thoughts?

Most Heat Pumps Have a defrost cycle. Don't know about rv pumps but s/b have a control board with a jumper you can set it for 30, 60 or 90 minutes.

Like JettyJock said, defrost cycle. Some have fixed defrost timer and others have a freeze sensor that initiates the defrost cycle. Also, you might notice the unit puts out cold air during the defrost cycle depending on the design of your particular unit.

YUP--RV heat pumps have a de-frost cycle--Dometic for sure. Usually cycles in very humid conditions when temps are closer to system lock-out limits, eg, low 40s or maybe high 30s?????? Guess it could cycle in mid 50s but seems a bit high, for a Dometic......

Makes sense - when it started it was around 44 outside.

Dometic 15KBTU heat pump units have a defrost cycle like you describe, however the smaller 13.5KBTU heat pump do not, this feature allows the 15KBTU heat pumps to operate down to about 28 degrees F, vs 38 for the 13.5KBTU's

Interesting. When it is 55 out, we open all the windows and turn on the exhaust fans to pull in that cool, comfortable air.

Where are you that it has been 44 degrees out? Or, did you notice this in March and are just now posting it? It's going to be a while before I see 44 degrees.
