AC issues

Just saw video of an RV ac not working and it had a humming sound. Ended up being a bad fan capacitor. Now mine runs for a while and cools then compressor shuts off, but fan keeps working, but I hear a hum until I shut unit off, then I try to restart, it may or not come on. Could that be a bad capacitor also? This afternoon it's been working all day not skipping a beat. Can anyone explain what's might be wrong please.🥵

Could you add the, year, make and model of your A/C unit , please.

If it's Dometic , go to the " Files " drop box and in the "Heating and Cooling"
section look for the pdf " Duo Therm CCC " for a complete troubleshooting guide.

Compressor is going out or low freon causing the compressor to shutdown.

Could be freezing up. If it has a freeze sensor it will shut off the compressor and keep the fan running to defrost it. You can look up into the inlet side of the AC and see if you see ice on the evaporator coil.

Here is my system, which I think is pretty typical. There is a “start” capacitor for the compressor. If compressor won’t start, that is one of a number of possibilities but is a pretty common thing. There is also a “run” capacitor for the fan and a “run” capacitor for the compressor. They can be separate units or they can be combined into one “can” but they function as two separate capacitors. If the compressor starts but will not continue to run, then I would suspect the compressor “run” capacitor. Of course, there can be other reasons that he compressor will not continue to run, as others have stated, but IMHO, the “run” capacitor for the compressor is a prime suspect.
