AC Stops blowing hard after about 20 minutes
My RV is a 15000 BTU. When I turn it on, it blows hard for a little while, usually 15 minutes, then I notice that the air is coming out very weak. Cool, but weak. I don’t want to have to buy another ac as they are expensive. But can you tell me what the issue might be?
• I have cleaned the filters, (They were not dirty).
• The coils are not freezing.
• The Vents on the unit are clean and clear from blockage.
• There’s no noise coming from the unit. I just notice that the room temperature gets warm and I feel the vents. That’s when I notice the air is weak.
I don’t know if it’s the compressor? Capacitors? Fan motor?
Any info you can give me would be appreciated.
Thanks

No, there are 4 vents throughout the RV spread out far and none are blowing on the thermostat.

You positive it's not freezing up? That sure sounds like a frozen AC.

Well, when I noticed the weak air, I left it on, jumped up on the roof and removed the cover. Had a look around at things and the coils weren't covered with ice. ? So I don't think it's freezing. Is there any where else I can look to see if it's freezing?

The coil you can see from roof is the condenser coil........cools the coolant back down
The EVAP coil is the one that cools the air and can freeze up due to the condensation n the air
You can see that one easier by removing the return air filter and looking up into the space above
(Can see if from roof but you have to remove the sealed covered over the evap coil)

Okay great. Thanks. I will definitely look into that. I will be taking off the shroud and having a look just to make sure everything everything else looks good. Is there anything else I should check while I'm up there?

Also, if I do see it freezing, what is the solution?

If you pull the shrould again, I'd screen off, on the inside of shroud, all the vents....keeps flying guys from building nests on the fan.....

Okay, I'll do that. I did notice those dirt devil nests in there.

If the airflow starts slowing down after it's been running for 15 or so minutes, the evaporator coil is freezing up. Once the freezing starts, it's downhill from there. The freezing starts restricting airflow, which makes it freeze up even more, which restricts it even more, which freezes it even more.........until the compressor kicks out on high head pressure.

If you're running the fan on low speed try running it on high speed.
If freezing is the problem (and I agree that's what it sounds like) more air flow is better, especially if it's very humid where you are.
Edit: I just looked at your profile to see where you are.
Mobile, Al - yep, it'd be humid there.

Okay thanks. So, if it is freezing up, why? How do I fix it? What needs to be replaced?
