Air conditioner replacement

I have a 12.5 Coleman air-conditioner/heat-pump that must be replaced. Just wondering if there are any new and improved units out there that I should consider. Would appreciate your thoughts and suggestions.

I see there have been a lot of views but no replies. I think this may well be a form factor situation, you are fitting an AC unit into a specific size housing and while there have been some slight advances in AC compressor design they are not greatly significant in power saving and I don't know if they're available in this application. I am not finding specifications as to what kind of compressor is used in the Coleman or Dometic/Waeco AC units.

I'm going to assume that you meant a 13.5 instead of 12.5. We had one of our Coleman 13.5 ac/hp units go out (2) years ago and replaced it with a 15 ac/hp combo. Uses about 3-4 more amps but cools so much better than the smaller unit. We found the best price from PPL in Houston.

Dadeaux,

When you buy your new Coleman A/C, make sure the first digit in the Model Number is a "4".

The "4" means that the unit uses the new R-410A refrigerant ('the latest and greatest'). Coleman changed all of their model numbers to indicate this.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the responses, I had the bigger unit installed and now I'm waiting for Tropical Storm Lee to move out then we'll take a trip and check it out.

Thanks again.
