Air conditioner ( roof ) maintaniance ?

I am wondering what periodic maintenance is required or recommended for a roof mounted Colman air conditioner. My Unit is 10 yrs old and has never been serviced. I is working fine now, temp 85, humidity 60 percent. Is there a requirement for adding Freon or other preventative maintanaince? We are full time and have spent two full summers using the air. How long can I expect the Coleman unit to go before needing service?

Gently clean the fins on the evaporator and condensor from roof top (pull the cover off). clean with a soft brush and mild soap and water. Dont bend fins!,, look up inside the plhenum from inside the coach and make sure all is clean and the duct tape is good at all joints and openings. These units dont get recharged.

No freon in many now, they use something else now and, while they can be recharged it's usually not economically feasible Since everything in the unit is old and will require service sooner than later.

X2 on what cheif said. Sometimes the start capacitors get weak and won't kick the compressor after years of use. I've ordered the "Hard Start" capacitors for mine and will change them out next week. $25.oo each on Ebay. One of mine is out and I'll change all three while I'm up there. (I have 3 AC's)

Thanks for the response. I only have one roof unit ( 30ft P32 workhorse ) so no back up if the unit stops working. Am a firm believer in preventative maintance with 25,000mi and no repairs or breakdowns. Learned a lot here...

Freon is the name brand equivalent and covers many refrigerant. Freon was/is manufactured by E.I. duPont. Union Carbide (now Dow chemical) used the trade name Ucon and there were a host of others. It is correct to simply refer to the coolant as refrigerant.

The units are sealed (hermetic) and seldom need any refrigerant added over their life. In 10 years, I hope you have cleaned the coils at least once.....

Sealed units and there is no refrigerant service to them. They should never leak out, contrary to what many people think they know.
You can replace capacitors, fan motors, and blades, and that's about it. Overload on top of the compressor too I guess.
