This is in a 2002 roseair.......never a problem until now......the gas part works fine but the electric heat stopped working.
I checked my RV's manual and it has the documentation of a suburban unit.......well this is a factory mess up as I guess they installed both at different times.
Here comes the problem....American Standard has been out of business or out of the Rv business for some time according to Rexhall and i don't see anything on them by goggling. I asked Rexhall for the proper manual/documentation and they had nothing and seemed very detached and said they only RR these units with suburban.......this is rediculous as this is a perfect running water heater except for I'm assuming a easy fix.
1. does anyone know were I can get documentation/diagram on this American Standard Water Heater ASDV-10SR
2. do any of the parts carriers have cross reference to this unit, I'm asumming its the electic element or rod that is bad.
any help is very much appriciated.
Loren

Hi Loren,
Welcome to iRV2. If you are handy with a meter, you might be able to make the repair yourself. I do not know your HWH brand. If it were a Suburban I would:
1. Take the cover (high up on the HWH accessed from the outside) for the over/under temp sensors off. When on electric, see if you have power to the sensors. Are there any burn marks on the sensors or the insulation?
2. Take the cover off for the heating element. With the water in the HWH cold, see if you have power (120 VAC) to the element. If you have power to the element and there is no heating, take an AMP reading. If there is no AMP draw then the element is bad.
3. If #1 and #2 have no power, you'll need to trace back to where the power is being lost. I'd start at the circuit breaker at the VAC fuse box. Then work your way to the switch that you use to turn the AC power for the HWH on/off.
The parts should be industry standard.

Heating elements can be purchased just about anywhere; hardware, home improvement stores or RV parts dealers. They all use just about the same wattage elements with threads.

Thanks guys for your quick response......this is all new to me, I've had two RV's in my life both have been new and this one is getting older and starting to have problems......been in the shop quit a bit as of late so I thought I would start learning and solving problems myself, I have always done the maintenance/servicing.....also not to mention saving money, this year I've already spent over $8,000 on repairs at my local RV shop.....before that I would have Rexhall do the work.
Looking at the HWH from the access door I see one cover, it has the reset button......I take the cover off there looks to be two sensors wired with 12v, one blue wire one red wire, they are connected together by a solid steel wire also........they look like new, no corrosion or burn, where on this unit is the 120v heating element located ? The fuse's and breaker to the water heat all look fine.
A second issue I've started to work on is my inverter remote stopped working and my RV would go to invert randomly. With a new cable it still had the same problem and with the remote disc. everything worked just fine except I no longer had the remote. Contacted Xantrex they thought it might be a communication board and ask me to contact a service center, I called Inverter Service Center and they recommended/thought it was likely the remote....I ordered a new one and will let you guys no if that resolved this problem.
Again in advance thanks for your input.
Loren

Hi Loren,
The 120 VAC heating element should be located near the bottom of the HWH.
