So what is the most effective way to detect this before a fire occurs? Not interested is changing the frig out to a residential frig.

ARP RV makes a temp sensing control unit that shuts down the RV Fridge before it overheats.
I have no connection with this company.
And I disagree with there statement in opening paragraph "......but even a brief time off-level, like driving up a hill, can send that temperature sky-rocketing"
Brief time off level ...YES but that is when being stationary and gravity flow is inhibited
Like driving up a hill.......NO! THe rocking back/forth, bouncing up/down from driving does not inhibit the gravity flow and create overheating conditions like off level operation while stationary does
Their temp sensor is mounted on perk tube and shuts down fridge if temp goes above 190*F IIRC. Norcold and Dometic sense burner/flue temps so tripping is done at higher temp settings.
It's the same only different because it reacts sooner and is sensing a different variable
Never used one....but concept is valid

As the previous poster pointed out the ARPrv is the only device that will give you a fighting chance of not destroying your RV from problems with your absorption fridge.
It has also been posted many times in many threads within this forum.

I just read this little tidbit about another possible problem which could cause a fire to start in the rear absorption fridge compartment.
The ARPrv device would not help in this case however having a Halon fire extinguisher device may have helped.
Reprinted from the RV Travel Newsletter.
A tiny arsonist is believed responsible for the destruction of a travel trailer in Washington Township, Ind. Two men living in the rig escaped the flames and called in firemen. Apparently, a mouse had constructed a nest in the RVs refrigerator compartment, which caught fire, sparking the blaze.

it may be buried somewhere in the numerous threads related to norcold recalls, but I didn't see it...........question, is there anyway to tell if norcold recall replacement parts have been installed?.............I bought a coach in august 2015 that had a frig subject to a recall notice.........I pointed that out to the dealer, who said they fixed the issue...............now I am wondering if they did.............or should I just go out and drop $1500 on a new amish unit............do not really want to do that............any help would be appreciated...............

Look for a black square box with a red LED on the face that should be zip-tied to the coolant lines. There will be wires that go to the control box and also over to the heater stack. The black box should have a yellow tag attached to one of the wires as shown in the supplied photo.

After much studing decided the ARPrv device is a good idea. It was 145 bucks (including 10.00 shipping). I ordered the one without the fan control since my refrigerator works very well as is. Thank you everybody for the info.

We have Norcold 1210 IMSS refrigerator that we purchased new from PPL Houston and had installed in our '06 RV which we purchased in Feb '15.
- Is it included in the recall and/or lawsuit?
Also:
- We're on our first RV trip of this year after de-winterizing rig.. Parked at an RVpark with full hookups. Refrigerator is running on electric (not
propane). Been here for 3 days . Icemaker has, so far, produced a very negligible amount of ice
cubes. Need help/advice please!
Thanks

Here a link RV Refrigerator Recall Notice by Norcold | Thetford Corporation
Gas or Electric does not matter a fire can be started by either.

Engineering reports that have been submitted as part of the discovery process document in the class action litigation indicate that when the cooling unit tubing ruptures at 400 psi and evacuates into the housing area behind the refrigerator, that the force of the gas escaping blows insulation fragments into the air. These insulation fragments can create friction and a spark resulting in ignition causing a fire and explosion.
So, it doesn't matter if it is on gas, or electric, or totally disconnected and turned off not being used. If and when the tubing ruptures due to corrosion of the tubing that it can and has caught on fire.

Find the serial number of your Norcold 1210.
If that serial number falls in the range of 315525 and 13088811 find the serial number of the cooling unit of your refrigerator.
If the cooling unit serial number falls in the range of 700000 and 13085759 contact Norcold: Contact Thetford Corporation for Customer Support
If your serial numbers are not among those identified in the steps above stop worrying about your refidgerator.
