aqua hot maintenance done

I changed tge filter and the nozzle. After changing the nozzle i broke one of the two eye brackets that hold the unit in place so only have 1 tightened properly. When I started the unit (after 5 months of storage) there was a lot of black smoke spewing from the exhaust pipe. So I am wondering if this is normal. I let in run around 25 minutes but no change. I am wondering if this is normal or if I have somehow done something incorrectly to cause this.

If you do not have BOTH of the "J" bolts in place the Webasto will not be held in the combustion chamber tightly, will leak combustion air. This will cause the Webasto to make black smoke and if the leak is bad, you can damage the combustion chamber. You should not use the diesel until you make repairs.

What part of the eye bracket did you break? Bolt, nut or pin? Or did you break the ear off of the Webasto?

Uh Oh...
Roger Berke where for art thou? He's the definitive answer for all your questions, but breaking that tang is going to cost you a new case/burner assembly. I suspect it simply will not seal (one black smoke cause) or safely stay put to run just one.

Black smoke has numerous causes - here's a troubleshooting link to get you started.

Send Roger a PM if he doesn't come online in the next couple days.

Broke the ear off the unit. I guess that is bad news. I can't understand how I did it. I guess I will need to find a place to buy that? Problem is I am in Newfoundland in Eastern Canada. No dealers here.

Aqua-Hot part number WPX-225-67A - Casing, Blower. Do internet search for this part number. There are a number of online sources. List price for part is $147.03.

You have to COMPLETELY disassemble the Webasto to replace the blower casing.

Bolts are supposed to be tightened to 25-35 INCH pounds, which is not much.

I have done this same thing and we epoxied it and was never a problem. Make sure that you use some good epoxy and clean it up good.
Good luck

Thanks for the info. I had Roger fix mine and all is fine now. If it ever happens again (hopefully it never will) I might try that.
