Anyone out there know if you can convert the propane Aqua hot burners to diesel fired?

I have never heard of a propane Aqua-Hot. What model is it? What year was it manufactured?

Not sure what years and models the propane fired units are installed in. We have been shopping DP's for a year or so and really like the Entegra Aspire which we found out has the 'propane' Aqua Hot. I believe they call it a 375LP or 400LP model. You can find more info on the Aqua Hot website. The Aspire is at the top of our budget and to get the diesel Aqua hot system would have to go to the next level coaches which is around $50-100K more. the difference in the Propane vs Diesel Aqua Hot systems is only around $2-3K. Was hoping there was a conversion for this?

Very interesting. Yes, they certainly do make a propane version. The propane unit is physically much smaller and has only two control outlets. The diesel versions have three control outlets and typically another for the basement. I seriously doubt there would be any conversion kit available due to the substantial differences in these units. And, I also doubt you would ever save enough on the cost differential of diesel to get back your investment in a conversion kit. I would also expect that your annual maintenance costs would be a lot less with the propane unit.

This is an interesting way of getting the AquaHot benefits in a smaller package. And it eliminates the issue of a diesel smell. In a way, this propane version has the best of both worlds.

So, BobandAnnaMarie, Your saying you have a diesel smell with your Aqua Hot. Is this from the exhaust outside of the coach?

When it starts there is a bit of a diesel burning smell from the exhaust. When it is up to temperature there is a very slight to non-existent smell. Most of the time there is enough breeze to dissipate the exhaust to the point where it is very difficult to detect an odor. But, I can smell burning propane as well. So, I would say it is a wash on this.

I just know most of the negative comments about the AquaHot is the diesel smell. I guess some folks are very sensitive to it. I had one fellow who would not ride in my diesel Oldsmobile (this was a long time ago) because he could not stand the smell of diesel. So, it really depends on how sensitive you are to the odor.

GM made a diesel version of the 5.7 for several years Olds and Cadillac both used it in cars. It was early 80's and a nightmare as it was poorly designed and built even worse.

As to the question yes you could swap them out however cost would be very high and gains would be minimal.

I owned one of those POS Oldsmobile diesels. It was so awful that I literally gave it away for nothigwhen the engine died after only 50K miles. That thing was terrible when it was brand new, and it got rapidly worse.

Yep. Some idiot thought you could just beef up a gasoline block, put a high compression head on it and have a diesel. Terrible mistake. We had a "brass hat" used car that was used in "Hill Street Blues" filming. Ran nice for the first 45k miles than blew a rod right through the block. All down hill from there.

Roger Burke is the guy to ask he knows all.

As for exhaust, for both generator and Aqua Hot I use the Gen-Turi. Available at Amazon or Camping World.

Roger is sharpt on the Aqua Hot units, but GM first had the 4.3 & 5.7 Diesel in 1978 year mdels, some had great luck with them, I for one, but most had zero luck nor knowledge how to care & feed them. Am told in the 1983 model, they hadfixed the issues but too late.
