Atwood 8500-IV Furnace Solenoid/Valve Removal

I need to replace the gas valve/solenoid in one of my 8500-IV-DCLP furnaces because of a small propane leak that I detected coming thru the burner-tube.

There's not enough room to access/remove the valve with the entire furnace in-place.

It looks like there may be an internal sub-chassis to which the motor, plenum, valve, etc, are mounted and might be pulled out in one piece, but I don't see how to undo it. Or do I need to remove the entire furnace (after removing ducts, gas-line, wiring) and disassemble everything on the bench?

Thanks!

Don't you have an exterior access panel?

All work can be done via it.

IF you have the 'optional' install with just intake/exhaust ports then you have to remove furnace in order to replace parts.

Thanks for the reply(s).

No way to get the valve/solenoid out by itself. Looks like the outer case/frame might could be separated from internals but wasn't sure. Manual isn't clear if it can be done.

Suggestions?

I’m still wrestling with how to access the valve/solenoid without removing the entire furnace – exterior case/shell and all.

Looking at it, it seems like I could (should?) get the inner case and its components removed separate from that outer case, but the method escapes me. I’m trying to not remove the outer case because that would break the gaskets/seals on the outer wall, and then I’d have another leak-repair job on my hands.

Old-Biscuit - I’ve done a lot of searching and reading about this furnace on here and it looks like you’re pretty-much the expert on them. Can you give me a bit of insight as to what I’m missing? I’ve gone thru the operation and repair manuals (as well as Youtube videos) but they don’t seem to break it down for me. Obviously I missing something.

A little help?

Thanks!
