Atwood 8525-III no ignition

Hello,

My furnace was squealing and banging really bad recently, but still igniting until a couple of days ago. So, I looked up some DIY videos on YouTube that made me believe the motor was bad. Upon further inspection, the motor was definitely bad, so I replaced it. It's so quiet now!

It comes on when the thermostat calls for heat, but will not ignite.
I had this non ignition problem once before. It was due to low battery voltage, but always ignited with the generator running. I now have new batteries. It still will not ignite on battery power or generator power. The propane is full and working at the stove.

Any suggestions?

There is a sequence that must happen for ignition to happen. You have a good fan motor, so I assume the sail switch is closing, signaling sufficient air flow. After a delay, then the gas valve should open and the spark ignitor starts firing.

All of this is explained in this service manual. You didn't mention if you hear the gas valve clicking open. That might be an area to start.

Check voltage at board and at gas solenoids with a meter. You must establish that you have at least 10.6 volts or gas solenoids will not open. Having new batteries or even being on shore power is not going to guarantee that you have the required voltage. Once voltage is established and you still have no ignition, inspect igniter for spark, got spark, required voltage and still no ignition? Time to check gas pressure (10-14 inches w.c.), inspect orifice and flue.

Problem solved

Thank you guys for the manual and suggestions. All of the required tests seemed a bit too complex and I didn't want to do all of that if I didn't have to.

So, I methodically thought about every step of the installation to see if I could come up with an error (because it happens a lot)! And it occurred to me that I had difficulty getting the squirrel cage back on..... could it be installed wrong? Yes, it can with some persuasion! And it was.

Now that it's installed correctly the air flow kicks the sail switch on and the furnace blows hot. The only thing that would have tipped an experienced tech off is how quiet the fan was inside.

It's always a good bet to look over whatever was done just prior to the problem showing up. That usually reveals a DIY "glitch". Thanks for sharing, hopefully it will prevent someone else from making the same mistake.
