What Old Biscuit is discribing is exactly what happened to me. It was a manufacturing issues as where the mounting of the air flow switch allowed it to hit the fan blades eventually wiping out all the blades from the wheel.
Before the heater stopped working, it made a noise that sounded like it had sucked in some paper.
I was able to do the repairs, replacing the fan wheel, and properly mounted the switch. I takes a little patience, but it will save you from a big bill.
You should find the fan I'd number on the side of it, or what's left of it, and very important to clean all the broken blades out. Good luck
