Need to replace the hi temp limit switch in my Atwood 8545-IV furnace. Can see it is behind the squirrel cage fan assembly but can't figure out how to remove the fan to get to it. Help!

Hopefully the exploded view diagram for an 85 Series-IV on page 41 will help.

The hi limit t'stat is located and can be accessed from the rear of the furnace by removing the rear panel. If access to the rear panel is not possible the furnace will have to be pulled to get to the hi limit t'stat. Be sure to check for proper return and supplied air flow. It sounds like the unit has been operating off the hi limit and therefore shortened it's life. Normally, they never go bad unless having to continuously open and close.

Thanks, Dave and RV Wizard, Does that mean if I take off item #7 from the diagram, I can get to it? I'll check the ducts for flow as well while I am in there.

I have never had one of these units apart so I would have to defer to RV Wizard.

Yes, you can remove the extension box to access the high limit thermostat.
