Muddypaws,
I have checked the items you mentioned. Also the red warning lite on the control panel does not come on at all. Can I jumper wire the propane valve in order prove that the board is faulty ?

Koebes,

See if you have 12 VDC at all of the following points (in the following order) when the water is cool (that means turn off the A/C element and let the water in the tank cool) and the LP switch is turned ON:

1. To and out of the thermal cut-off.

If nothing in, check your 12 VDC system.
If nothing out, the cut-off is bad. Replace it.

2. To and out of the t-stat.

If nothing out, the t-stat is stuck open or blown. Replace it.

3. To and out of the ECO.

If nothing to the ECO, the board is bad. (The 12 VDC flows from the t-stat to the board, then to the ECO.)
If nothing out of the ECO, the ECO is bad.

[BTW, the t-stat and ECO should always be replaced as a set.]

4. To and out of the gas valve.

In nothing out of the gas valve, one or both coils is/are bad.
Check both coils for continuity (they are connected in series). If no continuity, replace the gas valve.

Hopefully, you have noticed that knowing the water heater's Sequence of Operation is very important. And the SoQs for Atwood and Suburban water heaters are different!

Hope this helps.

My problem is the exact opposite of what koebes asked about.
Our little camper has an Atwood model DSI-96160 hot water heater. The hot water works great(!) on gas, but can't get it to work on elec. We just got back from our first overnighter in it, and had it plugged into the parks 30amp. Everything worked well except this...kind'a frustrating. Thank goodness for gas! We are new to the RV'n world (did a lot of tent camping), so any suggestings would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Atwood hot water heater

I rectified our problem by thoroughly cleaning the electrical contacts!
