I am sure someone on here has experienced this same issue with their hot water heater - just am too tired to look through all the pages....
In my coach I have an Atwood 10 Gallon DSI hot water heater. (GC10A-4E). It works great on shore power, but when trying to dry camp, the hot water heater will not stay lit on LP..
I have taken the igniter board out and had it tested at the RV shop.. They told me it was BAD and suggested I buy an electrote because mine most likely was cracked and shorting to ground.. sounded logical, so I bought it, went home plugged everything together and what do you know... same problem...
When on LP, the valve cycles, provides LP to the igniter, and off it goes. The flame is blue and strong for about 14 seconds, then POOF! off it goes. It tries to restart one more time, but the second time, the flame is on for about 1 second, then it off and the DSI Fault light comes on inside the coach by the water heater switch, and no hot water...
I have bypassed the thermal cutoff and have the same result.
Only thing left I can think of is that switching valve, has anyone had a similar situation?
NOTE: When I am connected to shore power, and I flip the 120v switch, I do get hot water, If I turn both the 120v and the LP switch on, I get hot water and no DSI Fault.....
I can usually figure this stuff out, but I can't find any troubleshooting guides that list my problem.. I am leaning towards the switching valve inside the hot water heater assembly.....
Thanks!
Tom
