This is a GE16EXT. May have accidently fried my electric heating element. Thought the tank was full (it was not) I flipped the electric switch and saw the amperage usage meter go up accordingly. We are on the verge of some hard freeze weather and yesterday when I started to drain the tank, nothing came out. I opened the pop off valve and still nothing. I had opened the low point drains earlier but very little water came out. When I flip the electric switch now, nothing happens to the amperage readings. Thus my idea the element is toast.
Somewhere read about a reset button on a water heater, but not sure it was an Atwood.
Few questions please:
Is there a reset on the Atwood?
Do I access the element from the rear of the tank?
How can I tell for sure the element is toast?
On this question I figure I might use a meter for continuity testing but not really sure it that is the best way
Any help for a dummy who messed up - thanks
doc

According to this PDF it shows your electric element in rear of your WH. You should check the wire terminations, 120v, into the WH if they were not connected correctly may have just melted the plastic connecting point. Had a friend with this problem and dealer tech connected it twice the same way not putting spade clip on male terminal. Just push between plastic and male clip. If element fried can get new one in Wal-mart or any RV shop. Will need large size socket to remove.
Don't feel as a dummy we have all done worse.

Well, I monkeyed around with it this PM and when I flipped the electric switch, the amperage meter went up in about 3-4 seconds, just like it is supposed. I cut it back off and took Ms Carol out for supper.
I don't know how or what, but it is fixed and as the old TV program used to say, "case closed". Thanks for the help OO

Atwood's new water heaters have electronic protection for when a unit gets the electric heating element energized accidentally with a dry tank. It will disconnect power tot he element and prevent a burn out. It as been around for a few years now.
