Hello All, Just did my annual maintenance on my 10 gal water heater. Prior to the maintenance, I had a small problem with the propane flame staying lit. After the propane lights, it runs a minute or so then shuts off. It repeats this again until the 3rd time in which it stays lit. I took everything apart on the unit and have cleaned every electrical connection, the burner tube assembly etc. I have a good steady blure flame. I can only assume that its the electrobe. Any suggestions?

Agree - it is the flame sensor (igniter electrode) or related wiring. Clearly it needs to heat way up before the control board can sens a flame. If you are convinced you have eliminated the wire to the sensor as the problem, and the electrode is in the flame where it belongs, then replace the electrode. It's not expensive.

You could also clean the sensor probe that senses the flame heat. It may just have carbon buildup and need some cleaning. Gently clean with cloth with contact cleaner maybe enough to get carbon off. Don't scrap could damage the probe.

007. I did just that during my maintenance. Don't know the cost of replacing the sensor yet but as I mentioned, it does work after several tries and I'm inclinded to leave it alone till it fails completely. Thanks for your thought on the matter.

Gary, Thanks. I'll check on a price to replace the electrode.

Dave, have you adjusted the flame on the front horozontal tube? since you have cleaned the electrode, you might light your stove top burner's and it may just relieve any air that may be in the lines. I had a similar problem and adjusting the burner flame really helped mine.Just reply if you need help with adjusting flame. Good luck,
David G.

Thanks
