Atwood Water heater problems

I am at a loss on this one. I am thinking there is something intermittently wrong with the circuit board. Maybe someone can offer suggestions.

Water heater use to not fire up after hard rain, but after I bent the door per instructions from atwood tech that problem cleared up.
Last fall it would not light during the entire 3 days at Charleston SC. Worked great for the week and a half previous to arriving there and then was fine after.

I cleaned all the contacts several times over that weekend. Checked thermostat and fuses for continuity, checked for voltage, made sure there were no obstructions. Everything was good. Left the Park and drove 60 mile to the next campground and it fired right up again.

If it is the circuit board where whould I bring that to have it tested?

I would recommend you disconnect the wiring form the control board and inspect for corrosion. Clean with electrical contact cleaner and reconnect. It sounds as though you have an intermittent connection at the control board. Another possibility could be an igniter lead that is shorting out prior to the igniter; it also could be intermittent due to close proximity to metal of the door or high humidity creating a path in the circuit.

Thanks, good ideas there. I did file down the grounds at the campground and go over the circuit board connections with an eraser. I took apart and checked every spade connector, making sure there was continuity. I even took the control panel apart inside to make sure the contacts were good and clean. I will try putting a small flex conduit over the igniter wire to keep it isolated. It's worth a shot.

I had the same problem with a Georgie Boy a few years ago. I screwed with it for months. I finally replaced the thermal cut-off device (a fusible link) which had tested ok many time and the problem went away.

Additional comment about circuit board. Had a repair guy use the tester that is described in the Atwood repair manual and he managed to blow out the electric part of the circuit. If the board tests ok leave it alone. It cost me $225 to replace it.
