Atwood Water Heater Wiring Help

I currently have an Atwood GC10-3E water heater and purchased a GC10-4E to replace it. The 4E has blue, green, orange and white wiring and the 3E has blue, brown and green wiring. The green wire was connected to a white wire running from my rv. Not sure how this wiring is supposed to be done. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

Welcome to iRV2.

Didn't the new water heater come with wiring instructions ?
Do you have a voltage multi-meter, with an " ohm " scale ?

I would SUSPECT that the green on the heater is a ground wire and the white wire from the RV is also a ground. BUT you need to be sure before you connect.

No instructions. I was told it would be plug and play but as I learned, this is not the case. I spoke to some folks and learned I have to install an additional switch in order to make this work. They will be sending me some additional info. What I thought was odd was the green wire from the old heater was connected to a white wire.

NO..it is NOT a 'plug and play' installation

3E version is 'old style' model with different controls....electric and propane separate

4E version incorporated electric/propane into ONE control scheme.....DC controls and common t-stats.

See pgs 23-25 of this manual for info and what wiring changes are needed
http://www.atwoodmobile.com/dealer-m...aterManual.pdf

WHITE wire is DC from Electric ON/OFF Switch
ORANGE wire is DC from Propane ON/OFF Switch
GREEN wire regardless of version is DC NEG/GRD

4E/10E wiring
