I have an aux switch on my dash that goes nowhere. Used the 12v power to it for my TPMS.

The other end of the wire may be... Nothing but the end of a wire.

If you are concerned, there is a device called a cable tracker, I don't know how well it will work in an automotive bundle (I suspect not well) but you could try it, Disconnect from the switch BEFORE tracing and meter to insure it's not the live wire you are tracing (it goes to a fuse block)

The classic method is try it and see, Turn on and off.

I have "The Tracer" by Progressive Electronics, I got it from the surplus box when the Bell System broke up. I just tested it and it starts picking up a signal from about a foot away. I may trace my aux switch just to see where it does go.
