Backup camera system

My Winnebago Aspect has a factory installed backup camera system, mounted on the visor.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. When I put the mh in reverse the camera activates about 70% of the time. The other 30%, nothing. I don't think it's a reverse switch problem as sometimes it doesn't work even if I just turn it on.
Anybody have any experience with these things? Where should I look for an obvious bad connection?
Also, the video quality is awful. I have been considering replacing the entire system with something that has a better quality picture. Sometimes I can't even tell what I'm looking at. (when it works)
Any recommendations for a replacement unit? Preferably using existing wiring and connections?

A year ago or so I had a problem with my camera/monitor system. Sometimes it worked, sometimes not. When the system did work sometimes it had diagonal lines on the display and sometimes not. What I finally found out was the connections between both the monitor and the cable, and the camera and cable, were not always making contact. I figured it didn't work worth a darn anyway so I decided to take a chance. What I did to fix it was cut the plug-in connectors and hard wire them. A year or so later the system still works well. Hope this helps.

Thanks, I'll check those connections at the monitor first, it seems like it's a power issue so maybe that connection is faulty.

baraff,

Very good possibility your monitor is going and will totally fail sometime soon.

If you have a speaker system via/through the camera and it still works, the camera is getting plenty of power and probably working just fine.

Suggest you google the monitor model number to identify manufacturer, then contact their tech support for help/informaton about availability and pricing for replacement monitor.

Hope this helps.
