De-sulfating and equalization are the same. Hopefully you used distilled water; this is the only kind of water to use. After adding water the batteries will need charging.

The 12 volt side of life, part 1 and 2. Battery University. A wealth of information on the care and feeding of batteries.


De-sulfating and equalizing are not the same. De-sulfating is done to remove sulfur crystals from the battery plates.
Equalizing is done to get the specific gravity in each individual cell to match as close as possible.

Update: voltmeter showed one battery was weak. Took it by RV place that is doing some other work for us. They tested and confirmed it is bad. We were not ready to make battery decisions so had them remove that battery and we are now using two house 12v batteries. Can't say that it has changed battery performance in either direction. Still the same basic scenario as described initially in this thread. We are going to be on shore power next few days so going to get them fully charged and then disconnect and go back to dry camp mode and see if that makes any difference.
