Battery Trickle Charger

After winter storage connected to shore power, my 2004 Holiday Rambler Admiral (Workhorse) would not start. Is there a trickle charger for the chassis battery built into the electric system?

It depends how it was wired. On ours, I leave it connected to shore power and it monitors all batteries including the engine battery. I also check them once a month to make sure the water levels are okay. At the same time I start both engine and genset for a little bit.

Grab a multimeter and check to make sure your engine battery is getting charged.

On many coaches the on board inverter/charger, (which is powered by shore power), maintains ONLY the house batteries, NOT the chassis/starting battery.
I don't understand WHY, but that is often the case!

My coach has a two pack of charging devices.... the roof mounted little solar trickle panel. I think it floats a fully charged coach battery....and the regular charger.....that floats the house batteries. I unfortunately have a battery disconnect. If I happen to flip that on my pass out the door.... it shuts down all the devices that can maintain the batteries.

On my RV neither generator nor shore power charge the engine batteries.

We have a 2013 Tiffin 35 QBA on a Ford (gas) chassis and the starting (chassis) battery was only charging when the engine was running. I added a Trikle Start so it would charge the chassis battery when on ground power or when the generator is running. It cost about $40.00 and is easy to install.

X2 on the Trikle-Start. Look at www.lslproducts.net. Great product. Used one of them and now have switched to the newer big brother, Amp-L-Start.
Good luck and safe travels!

I'm looking for a simple system to monitor house battery voltages to alert me to low voltage situations and when the batteries are near dead when I'm boon docking. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I have 2 of those meters...(one to monitor the chassis battery and one for the house batteries).

However, my meters don't sound an alarm when the voltage drops to a level that the batts need charging, (which would be nice).

It would be nice to have one that does that. We don't boondock so they work well, but even if we did it's better than nothing or the dummy lights. We got it to make sure the charger/alternator is working. I'm surprised there isn't a simple one like ours that has that option.
