Bedroom Air Conditioner Question

Now that we are both retired and able to use our 5th wheel for extended trips, we have decided we need to add a 2nd air conditioner to our coach. I have been checking the internet trying to determine which unit would best suite our needs. We have a 2010 Heartland Big Country that is 34 feet long, with the standard 15k unit in the living area and are thinking about adding a low profile 13.5k unit in the front bedroom.

I have no loyalty to any specific brand, but am leaning toward the Coleman Mach 8. All RV air conditioners are noisy, but I am wondering if anyone has had first hand experience with this unit? Also what are your thoughts on size, is the 13.5 large enough or should I go 15k?

I would appreciate any first hand knowledge of the Mach 8 that anyone may have had.

I think a 13.5 K unit would be plenty for the front bedroom. Is your RV a 50 amp model? If so, you could run both A/C at once. If not, I'd suggest wiring the new A/C to a separate power cord. With an adaptor, you could plug the 30 amp cord into the 50 amp outlet and the second A/C into the 30 amp outlet.

Ratler,

Our Road Warrior was pre-wired for the bed room A/C, and you don't want to go larger than a 13K BTU in such a small space.

We did the same addition to ours and aside from the noise that you will soon get used to, it was a welcomed relief during hot South Carolina days at the beach.

We had the 5.5 Onan genset and it never complained about running both A/C units at one time, as long as the microwave didn't call for long power usage also.

Be ready to reset the gen main breakers a few times until you figure out what you can't run together.

Other than that, you'll be totally satisfied.
