Hello,
I'm new to this forum, but not new to rv'ing. I bought a 32' Bounder to live in. Very nice unit. Only has Atwood 6 gal gas water heater. Plenty attequit for me.
I generally only need hot water in the morning for my shower. Been turning it on in morning until it stops itself, then turning switch off after my shower.
Was Wondering if I should just leave it on all the time, which way is best to use the least amount of propane.

It will get cold here in the Mojave Desert in the winter, and it could take longer to heat the cold water in morning.

Maybe I should get a Lightning Rod 110v kit and not worry about it ??

Hello and . We are glad to have you join us here and we look forward to reading of your adventures and experiences. I am sure you will enjoy the website and forums. Good luck, stay safe and keep us posted.
You may want to install the Hot Rod and plug it into an outside receptacle to keep from limiting your other electrical needs. Just make sure that it does not freeze. Good luck and keep us posted.

I agree, install the Lightning Rod, use the CG power that you are already paying for.

Also, you can probably leave the gas turned on to the water heater, the pilot light is a minimal cost. This will reheat the water faster during your shower.

Well, I manage a smog test & repair shop here in Calif. So...this guy comes in and fails his test, so we diagnose it for him. Turns out he needs about $600 worth of repairs. Well we get to talking and I discover he is unemployed & has no $$ to fix his car, BUT....he worked for 27 yrs at the largest (now closed down) RV dealer in the area.

We made a deal....I got his car fixed & smogged, and he is doing the minor repairs I need done on this beautiful 16 year old Bounder.

And I made a friend in the process !!

He installed the Camco Hybrid Heat electric convert kit ($73 internet) for me. And the correct, professional way, too. Circuit breaker, romex wire, etc.

I work all day, so now I can save even more $$ by turning on the electric water heater element when I go to bed, and then turn it off after my shower in the morning. (remeber, I am living in the MH).

I am going green.....by keeping it in my wallet !!

Looks like you found a win/win deal, congrats. Also good to know where you can get some additional local help.

Yes, and he wired a lighted when on switch for me in the bathroom, so it will be an easy on/off thing.

Today he is removing the old dried & cracked body stripes. Later he will PAINT new graphics on the coach for me.

I will need to figure out what I want.
