Been doing my chassis maintenance (lube, oil/filter, etc) and now it's time for the really fun stuff - fixing the leak in the shower. By now I have almost all of the clear silicone out of the corners, so I thought I'd ask the question for the next time I have to deal with silicone.

Anyone have a better way to remove the old silicone than the razor blade/box cutter method I used? There's gotta be something better...

Not that I've ever known. Your's is also my removal method. Humm, I just got the results from the Dogpile search engine- DSR 5 silicone remover and Moreau marketing SU 100 silicone remover , are products I never knew existed until researching your question, thanks!
I found a much better product for sealing around showers, sinks, etc. Liquid Nails makes "Liquid Seal"; clear, very clingy, non-sagging, rather like contact adhesive on steroids. It cannnot be used on rubber roofs though, it contains petroleum products.

Once you do get the surface clean of silicone and any greases and dry, a good silicone applied well should last you the life of the coach. You could try using a 5n1 tool; looks like a cut up thick and sharp putty knife. Good luck and keep us posted.

Get out your check book. DSR-5 is about $28 for a spray bottle - looks about 16 oz. SU 100 is sold by the 1 gallon and up sizes. Was afraid to ask the price. Maybe one of these days they'll market them to people like us. Thanks for the tip.

Silicone containing products seem to never adhere well to smooth hard surfaces long-term, and as you know residues are very difficult to remove. Just today I removed the ends of the guttering to install gutter extensions, there was water behind the rail where someone had used silicone instead of higher priced quality sealant. I use the product named above-except for where it may contact the EPDM roof covering. There I use Dicor non-sagging sealant or Proco rubber roof lap sealant.
