blow dry/defrost fridge ok?
Is it harmful in any way to help speed up the process of defrosting the fridge by using a hair drier? Thanks!

Norcold says don't but I do . I keep it moving to not burn anything. Also I'm careful not to let the dripping melting ice get on the hair dryer. EEK

You can also turn it off and place a towel in the freezer and leave the door open. I do that 2x per year. I don't like to stand there holding a dryer.

We use a small portable ceramic heater sitting on the hutch counter (appx 3' away) pointed at the fins in the back of our Dometic fridge section. We find that once the fins start to release the ice it's easier to pick the ice off then let it completely melt. Both freezer & fridge doors are open. Usually takes 15-25min. If using a hair dryer just don't get too close or wet. Towels in the bottom can help cleanup as mentioned earlier.

We did it for the 6 years we had a Norcold with no problems before we installed a frost-free residential. Just make sure you don't hold the dryer in one spot too long. It's unlikely, but the heat could cause the liner to soften and it could also cause the urethane foam insulation to expand and cause a bulge in the inside wall of the freezer.

There can be a problem if you overheat any of the plastic parts.
Far safer and just as effective is to use a small box fan to blow unheated air into the top of the fridge. Use a couple of towels to cover the food in the lower shelves and it will stay cool for the few minutes it takes.

I have also used a hair dryer. I use a SHAMWOW that works great for sopping up the water.
Also, on the Norcold double door 1200 series, there is a small drain pan on the inside rear. I will go outside and blow up the drain tube to make sure it is free of debris. Once the refrigerator starts frosting up the drain tube may be blocked. I can barely get my fingers inside the drain pan.
