I put a Progressive Dynamics with the Charge Wizard which automatically desulfates in my coach after using a desulfating battery charger for many years on my other vehicles. Yes they do work if you don't wait too long so that the cells get deformed and completely shorted out. Once they are mechanically shorted though thats the end of the story. Only works while there is free space below the plates for the sulfate sludge to build up.
In the old days you could drain the batteries and using an electrically heated hot knife cut the tar seal and rebuild a battery however those days are mostly gone.
