Burnt wire smell from water heater

Our Cameo has a 10 gallon Suburan water heater and when the AC switch is on we are getting a burnt wire smell from the heater. A few weeks ago the breaker was tripping and I replaced the element and no problem until a couple days ago. I have taken the panel under the sink out and looked at wiring with the water heater on. I can find nothing all the wires as far as I can feel are cool. I am sure it from the water heater, as when it off the smell goes away

Replace the switch. I had the same thing happen with my switch, you could even see a whisp of smoke from time to time. The contacts wear out. If you have what looks like a regular wall switch with a pilot light, you can pick up a replacement at Home Depot.
