What is the best way to test the 30 & 50 amp for VOltage and polarity? Is there a tester available with a adapter so the voltage can be checked prior to pluging in. If so where can it be purchased? The 50 amp needs a voltage and polarity check on both circuits...? I have been using a polarity tester light but its after the fact when I have already plugged in. The polarity tester also only checks one side of the 50 amp, the one that provides power to the 110 at the receptacles. On my last trip I found many 30 amp campgrounds that had very poor 30 amp power, it was maybe 20 amps..... thanks

I use a digital voltmeter.

On the 50 amp receptacle, I check each of the two hots to ground and to common for 120 volts then I measure across the two hots for 240 volts. Then I read across the common to the ground, should be 0 volts there.

I also check from the power post to the ground lug for power, if any is there it's indicative of a poor ground and could be a shock hazard.

On the 30 amp, measure from the hot to common for 120 volts then across the common to ground as in the 50 amp check.

Thanks, that helps and I have a meter. I thought maybe someone made a plug in device that would do this for me. I'm thinking now of bulding such a device that I can just plug in and get the results easier that using a meter.

Look HEREfor a 50AMP tester. I have never used one like this but it sounds like what you were asking about.

I strongly advize that you invest in a Surge Guard or equevilent device. It will check not only the polarity, but also the voltage for low or high limits and offers surge supression in the event of electrical spikes that can and will damage the electronics in your coach. A 50 amp unit can be used on 30 amp and even 20 amp if used just to maintaine the battery charge.
