Yes, but you need to let it set upright fro at least 12 hours before you turn it on. Residential one should not be laid down either.

Ummm... Call the manufacturer? If it can be transported laying dowh, there might be some time restrictions as to how soon you need to let it stand up before turning it back on.

I don't see why not. That's how the new cooling units are shipped.

Midniteoyl,
YES. During transport lay the absorption refrigerator on which ever side the boiler (long cylinder shape with metal or aluminum foil cover) is on. Prior to installation, you should set the refrigerator in it's normal upright position. Then lean/tilt significantly (no more than 45 degrees) and hold for 2 or 3 minutes in all four directions. This will help any bubbles move and all the liquid to start settling to where it belongs. Finally, let the refrigerator set upright for at least 30 minutes - then install.
Hope this helps.

When a compressor run cooling unit is laid down, oil in the system can migrate back up to the compressor where, if the compressor turns on, the oil would be blocking the valves. It's best to allow the oil to drain back to the bottom for at least 12 hours before start up occurs.
