Can I take the motor off the awning when it is in the rolled up position without the spring unrolling or other problems? I am trying to get it back to the original position when it was installed. The reason I need to do this is because I had to take the motor off to repair it several times in the down position. I think the spring unrolled too much when taking off the motor. Now the awning doesn't have enough torque to roll back up without help.
Thanks

Are you sure it is an Elite and not an Eclipse? Elite is an A&E awning name. At any rate you can download Carefree awning manuals from their website (below). There is a service manual for the Eclipse that shows the motor removal procedure. The XL (extra long?) version has a torsion spring, while the standard one does not. Both have a gas strut on the arms and you do need to be cautious of that because it can spring outward when the tension is removed.
