Carrier A/C Acting Up

Looking for some help from any A/C savvy folks out there...

I have a Carrier 68RV14113A unit, which is a low profile ducted heat pump. It's been working just fine (until today), but is about nine years old. I started up the unit today and only the fan was working... no compressor start. Originally, I thought it might be the starting capacitor. However, I tried it a couple of more times and on the fourth try the compressor started and the unit began blowing cold air. Unfortunately, after a couple of minutes, the compressor made a rumbling sound and quit... started just blowing uncooled air.

What do you think? Blown compressor... or something else?

Any help is appreciated.

Ron

Have you checked the run capacitor? The start cap can be bad even though the compressor did start for a short while.

No, I haven't checked/tested anything yet. I'll test it when I get home. I didn't know that the compressor would stop running due to a bad capacitor... good to know.

Thanks,

Ron
