On my Cameo 35SB3 we were plugged into 50 Amp service for the first time last weekend and ran the front air. We immediately noticed that it is much louder than the rear a/c and seems to be constantly making a surging/vibration/humming noise. Is this normal or do I have a problem? Does not blow breakers and does cool quite well, just does not at all sound right.

This is a 2010 model we bought used last month. Fortunately we purchased a 3 year warranty so it will be covered if something is wrong.

A lot depends on several things, Such as are they both the same size, are they both eitehr ducted, or not ducted. If they are "Twins" they you have a problem no question.

You mentioned vibration and surging.. I'm not sure what you mean by surging but vibration can be caused by a fan or blower problem.. one such problem is insect nests.. To test for this run it for a minute or two on FAN only.. If it vibrates you have a "out of balance" condition.

At least once a year (last week this year) I go top side with my handy pocket phillips head and remove the outer cover (Cowling) and then I also remove the condensor cover (4 more screws) I noticed one of my fans had 3 "Globs" on the hub.. I was able to remove the fan (I do not recommend this) and brush them clean. I also cleaned the condenser coils.. Getting rid of all the crud that builds up on them.

I then put everything back together and returned to earth.

I too HAD (past tense) a vibration problem.

For the rest,, (Surging) after you put the inner cover (Condensor cover) back on call down to your domestic partner and have her fire it up in air conditioner mode, Observe.

NOTE: the inner cover is a flat piece of metal atop the condensor/fan assembly.

On another forum it was suggested that I may have loose compressor bolts which I will check this weekend. I only hear the noise when the compressor kicks on and not when the fan is running by itself.

First thing to do is check the unit mounting bolts, also remove the top cover and see what is loose. 50 amp service would not effect the noise level of one of the units.

if its a carrier unit
its real easy to clean both the condenser and evap coils and while the top is off check the fan for klingons which make things go viiiiibrate
