Anyone out there have any problems with a centeral vac system? We have a 2005 Discovery and have used the vac. several times and this time I went to plug it in and nothing happened.. this usually turns it on automatically but nothing happened..what should I check BEFORE dealing with a service dept..any advice would be appreciated.

I'd start with the basics, fuses and circuit breakers for starters.

If your vacuum is a Dirt Devil, there are two wires that attach to the back of the lift gate where you plug the hose into. These wires just push in and make their connection via spring tension. On mine, I found this to be a poor connection and had to play with it for awhile. Just remove the gate assembly from the wall and pull it away slowly and then work with the wires to make sure it's working properly.

Heady:
If it the Red Dirt Devil check the 12v fuse that is on top of the Unit, it may be blown.

If all of the above fails it could be the circuit board with the relay that went kaput.
Just replaced mine, it took a surge.
It is around $65 for the part direct from the manufacturer H P Products. Takes 15 mins. to change out.
