Chasis battery

I went to start my generator today and the battery was low it would not start, but when I started the truck up it started up, does the chasis battery charge the house battery up? How bout the generator doesn't it also charge the house battery? How does these battery's work?

Many motor homes use a continuous duty solenoid activated by a wire from the RUN terminal on the ignition switch to charge the house battery when the engine is running.

The AUX Start switch on the dash also activates it.

In many cases the generator or shore power does not charge the engine battery. The exception is Fleetwood products which do. There may be other brands I am not familiar with.

The genny usually starts off the chassis battery. The chassis battery must have been a little low. Once you started the engine you had full voltage to the battery from the alternator, this is why the genny started. As previously stated the alternator will charge the chassis and house batteries. The genny will charge the house batteries but not the chassis battery(on most).

With Winnebago's the generator starts from the house batteries.
